Spring Environmental shortlisted for the 2026 Techfest Awards
Spring Environmental is proud to announce that the FAME Carbon Calculator, developed in partnership with FAME for the UK archaeology sector, has been named a finalist at the 2026 Techfest Awards – a recognition that highlights the growing importance of digital tools in driving environmental responsibility across heritage and construction industries.
A tool built to move a sector forward
The FAME Carbon Calculator was launched to help archaeology organisations measure, manage, and reduce their carbon impact with clarity and confidence. By providing a consistent methodology for calculating emissions across excavation, fieldwork, travel, materials, and operational activity, the tool gives the sector a practical way to:

Judges’ Recognition
The Techfest judging panel praised the FAME Carbon Calculator as a low‑cost, sector‑wide tool that delivers clear commercial value and brings much‑needed consistency to carbon measurement within UK archaeology. Judges highlighted the strength of its evidentiary documentation, the accessibility of its digitised data, and the way the tool supports transparent, reliable carbon reporting across the discipline.
They also noted that the approach is readily replicable across the wider heritage sector, positioning the calculator as a model for how digital environmental tools can help organisations measure and manage their impact more effectively.
